Atlanta Beagle Rescue Website Redesign

A newly built responsive website redesign for the 501c3 nonprofit organization, Atlanta Beagle Rescue. 

My Roles

I worked on a team with Sierra Swann. 

My responsibilities included the following user interviews, sketching, low fidelity & high fidelity prototyping

The Problem

Redesign the Atlanta Beagle Rescue (ABR) website so that the 501(c)(3) nonprofit  is better able to facilitate the adoption and fostering of the Beagles they feature on their page

The Solution

To create an online space that can make it easier for users to find their future pets and create a community around those with the same love and vision as the Atlanta Beagle Rescue

What people want: Survey & Interview Results

We interviewed 5 people who were either interested in adopting an animal or had previously adopted to determine what they feel is important to information to have when choosing a pet.

We also sent out a survey to determine the same information.

The following are pain points our users experience:

- ample demeanor and medical information about the animal

- websites were convoluted

- lack of general adoption/foster information

Bio: Wynn lives in Marietta, Georgia.  She has struggled with loneliness since her second child moved out for college last year. She has since been seeking a new companion. She goes for walks and is an avid church goer. She is concerned about supporting her community in her growing age.

- Used to be afraid of animals, but after her parents bought her first dog she was hooked.

- Is a natural caretaker

- Longing to take care of a pet because they need a home and she wants an extra companion

- Needs to find a place to adopt from that will give her good information on the animals

Pain Points & Frustrations

- Finding reputable places to adopt from

- Finding enough information about the animal before she goes to visit

- Finding clear information on adoption requirements

Definition & Ideation

Dreaming up solutions: I Like I Wish What If

The I like, I wish, What if process allowed us to dream up various solutions without any restrictions on our imagination. We then plotted the most ideas while taking into consideration out users needs and determined the following to be main feasible and most useful features:

- Status of an animals health and their records

- Educational information

- Photos, descriptors, age, breed and other helpful information about the dog online

Prototypes & Testing

Sketches

During the sketching procees, I  incorporated a modern feel to the website as well as adding new sections for foster and adoption requirements, basic contact information and a resources page to make ABR thought leaders on beagles.

Wireframes

We tested these wireframes on 5 potential users of the website. After this feedback, we adjusted the following things:

- Break portions of text so they are easily readable

- Adjust the spacing of asterisk on application page

- Remove chunks or repetitive text at the top of application pages

- Add resources button on application success screen

Final Prototype & Thoughts 

What I've Learned

Working on this project for the Atlanta Beagle Rescue has been rewarding. Their website was not functional and they revealed to us that they had been hoping to find someone to redo their website, but due to financial reasons it kept being put off.

Our plan is to give them the full package of this website redesign with suggestions for a developer to come in and make their website functional. Overall, Atlanta Beagle Rescue does not to have a problem with social media engagement. 

Our hope for them is that this redesign will add credibility to their business and give them a space of their own to help organize all of the things they need in one place.
